TrueScreen: bringing order to digital clutter

In the magnum sea of misinformation and the avalanche of information input that strikes our minds every day via the various media, in many cases, the consequence is an attitude of detachment or gradual distancing towards the digital. This attitude raises the question of re-establishing trust in digital information. TrueScreen, an Italian startup winning over customers, partners and investors, has tried to provide an answer, as demonstrated by the latest 2.4 million seed round closed recently. A significant figure for the Italian ecosystem, which needs to shine in terms of the trust that investors and large groups place in young companies.

Authenticate and not manipulate

TrueScreen provides services for multinationals, insurance companies, and banks, but its technology makes the difference, allowing companies, citizens, and institutions to guarantee the authenticity and impossibility of modifying digital content. Whether they are images, videos, signatures, emails, data streams, screenshots, and any other type of multimedia content acquired offline with a smartphone or tablet makes no difference because, with the startup’s services, each document is given legal and evidentiary value, thus preventing the manipulation of the same content, immune even in the face of the use of GenAI tools. In essence, TrueScreen is a cybersecurity company that manages and secures digital data.

The funds raised will be used to consolidate the product market fit achieved in the first two years of operations, enhancing the proprietary technology based on a patented forensic method, but also to develop new technology partnerships, strengthen the sales and marketing team, and above all accelerate expansion into European markets. Because the declared goal of co-founder and CEO Fabio Ugolini is ‘to become the international standard for legally enforceable data acquisition and management’.

The importance of ensuring content reliability

Already selected last year among the startups with the greatest potential in the cybersecurity field by Pwc Luxembourg, the Bologna-based startup founded in 2022 is at a turning point. ‘The exponential evolution of technology, not just AI, amplifies the problem of trust in digital information, which is increasingly easy to manipulate. In any social or economic environment, it will be mandatory to have solutions capable of guaranteeing the reliability of data from its origin,’ explains Ugolini. He describes TrueScreen’s mission: ‘We want to re-establish trust in digital information by providing advanced technologies for managing reliable data to businesses, institutions and citizens.

Founded due to the lack of effective solutions to validate digital content in legal proceedings, the startup has developed a system that involves three steps. It starts with data analysis, which, thanks to its proprietary algorithm, allows the imported information to be evaluated and certified in a matter of seconds. Then, the data generated by the app ends up in the forensic report certified by official bodies so that you can share the certification with whomever you wish.

To use TrueScreen’s services, there is the Advanced version for €150 per month and the Enterprise version with prices tailored to the customer’s needs.

Useful for certifying an event or a fact in real time, TrueScreen proves to be an effective tool in many different areas: from the legal field to combat stalking, bullying and copyright to the insurance field, in the case of road accidents, logistics, transport and fleet management, not to mention banks, real estate and the use to monitor land and infrastructure, as well as during testing and freight forwarding. To quote an eventuality that happened to Ugolini himself, you can get a refund if a train leaves early and you certify an image with the actual departure time different from the scheduled one.

This concrete example helps explain why TrueScreen is receiving support and funding to expand its range of actions.
