The Galaxy S23 could look like this

First rumours about the smartphone expected in February are leaked online

The official specifications of Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra, the next top-of-the-range smartphone expected soon, may have leaked online. The info comes directly from China’s telecommunications regulator TENAA, which has put a page with data about the phone on the web. According to the documentation, the S23 Ultra would feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor from Qualcomm, with either 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, depending on the configuration. Storage would see 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB models, with the manufacturer abandoning the basic 128 GB version. Nothing is known about the Exynos-powered variant, usually sold outside the US and Asian markets.

In terms of the screen, the QHD+ display could be 6.8 inches, with a resolution of 3088 x 1440, i.e. identical to the Galaxy S22 Ultra of 2022. If there is little new with respect to the panel, the most significant updates in the family would concern the camera department. According to the TENAA files, the S23 Ultra will have a 200 MP main camera, along with a 12 MP ultrawide, a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a second 10 MP telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom. The device’s dimensions speak of 163.4 × 78.1 × 8.9 mm and a weight of 233 g, which would make it slightly taller and narrower than its predecessor.

No details on the official design of the phone or in what colours it will arrive, although one can expect the presence of an S Pen in the bottom slot, as on the S22 Ultra model currently on the market. Doubts also exist regarding the launch date and availability. However, Samsung likely wants to take advantage of the usual window between January and February to hold an online conference, dedicating the second half of the year to the arrival of the new foldable models. The presentation will likely be brought forward to fall during CES 2023 in Las Vegas, from 5 to 8 January.

The other news of the day is the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s screen, which according to another leaker, Qwaider, will be relatively flatter than its predecessor. The reason? To improve the experience of the S Pen, which will be integrated as in its predecessor, while writing or drawing. Other design information concerns the rear lenses, which on all three models will be separated as in the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and the side edges, which will be more rounded in the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ and more angular in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Also, according to the leaker, all devices will feature flat displays, an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
