Microsoft announces the new Surface PCs optimized for AI

At the Advancing the New Era of Work with Copilot, Microsoft announced new Surface AI PCs: Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. The two devices offer high performance, longer battery life and connectivity, enhanced security, and a customized anti-glare display. They are also the first AI-optimized Surface PCs with the Copilot button that offers quick access to the Windows AI assistant. Microsoft reports that the Surface Laptop 6 is twice as fast as its predecessor, and the Surface Pro 10 is up to 53 per cent faster than the Laptop Pro 9. The benefits of NPU integration include AI features such as Windows Studio Effects and Live Captions and the opportunity for businesses and developers to create their own AI apps and experiences.

A good start for the business

The Surface Pro 10 for Business is designed to offer high performance for demanding business users. The device features Intel Core Ultra processors and introduces integrated support for 5G. In addition to Microsoft Copilot support, the PC provides input such as touch, voice and handwriting with the Surface Slim Pen, making using the device more intuitive. The Surface Pro 10’s display offers a 33 per cent increase in brightness, a higher contrast ratio and a customized anti-glare coating.

Finally, the device is equipped with an advanced Ultrawide Studio camera for high-quality video calling and Secured-Core certified to ensure maximum corporate data security. The Surface Laptop 6 is optimized for typing and maximum productivity. The integrated Copilot button helps users plan their day, locate a document, and analyze a website, offering integrated data protection. The device is equipped with two 13.5-inch and 15-inch PixelSense touchscreen displays that also feature anti-glare and adaptive colour technology that helps users see on-screen content in any environment, reducing reflections by up to 50 per cent.

Commitment to sustainability

With built-in Copilot, Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 for Business quickly enable accessibility features, allowing real-time subtitles or magnifying glass to be activated without having to navigate through Windows settings. Real-time subtitles are enhanced by NPU processing, freeing up CPU and GPU for other demanding applications. The Surface Pro Keyboard features a set of keys with brighter backlighting, reducing eye strain, while Microsoft Adaptive Accessories allow anyone who has difficulty using a traditional mouse and keyboard to create their ideal configuration.

Microsoft’s commitment to sustainability also continues with the new Surface AI PCs: Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 contain 25.8 per cent and 72 per cent recycled casing material, respectively, and offer integrated QRs to facilitate repairs. Microsoft also unveiled the Surface Management Portal, a portal offering insight-based monitoring to improve the value and efficiency of device management, allowing customers to track sustainability improvements as well. Designed for business users, the two devices provide high-level security features, are Secured-Core PCs certified and come with Enhanced Sign-In Security (ESS) by default. The two devices will be available from April 2024.

…and the security

Security is of critical importance to the customers, and Microsoft designs devices with Zero Trust security principles to help keep their most sensitive data safe and protect all the way down to the firmware level. Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 for Business have the highest-level security features and protections available in the ecosystem, are certified Secured-Core PCs, and have Enhanced Sign-In Security (ESS) on by default. “We’ve made updates to the hardware itself with an optional smart card reader on Surface Laptop 6 and new NFC reader on Surface Pro 10. These new features combined with chip-to-cloud security deliver the ultimate in authentication and protection,” said Microsoft.
