Meet the Talent: Michele Longobardi, Creative & Marketing Director

Place of residence: Rome, Italy

Position: Marketing Director Switch, CEO & Creative Director Beloud

How many projects are you currently working on? Please describe them:

I’m currently involved in different projects. I am the founder of Beloud, a digital web agency, as a CEO and Creative Director. I’m the marketing director of Switch, a SaaS platform for optimizing urban mobility. Last but not least, I started a challenging investment with Pizzeria Sancho (a top ten awarded best pizzeria at Taglio in Italy), where, of course, I always take care of the marketing but also business and growing evolution of the brand.

In your opinion, who is the most influential person or company in technology today, and if you could choose one app, product, or project to have been involved in, which would it be and why?

In this period of time, I would say Open AI is still scary for most people, probably because the way of using its potential is limitless. In our job and daily life, if used in the right way, knowing the capability is a game changer. As a creative and video/photo lover, I would probably choose apps or products that help professionals or non-professionals to achieve the best from their content. What is now happening in the new version of Adobe Suite is something that the younger me was only dreaming about. I still remember late-night work just erasing or cloning stuff from photos by hand. And now it’s a matter of a click.

How do you see technology evolving in the next ten years?

Hard to say. Probably ten years ago, I would have answered in a totally different way. I think AI is gonna take it to a different level; autonomous technology would probably be a big thing. Actually, I think the next 5 years will be very interesting in terms of exploring new scenarios.

What is the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your career?

Solving problems is always the most challenging thing. Probably making my first company, Beloud. Not because it was hard but because it was something unknown to my younger self. The process of starting a new project and never giving up when hard times come until you succeed is a big challenge. Another one is, on the other hand, letting go and knowing when to stop and start over if a project is not working the right way.

What is your next goal?

For now, I would say just growing and making sure that the current project will do the next big step we’ve been working on. But I say this every year, and because I like new challenges, every year something new pops up, and it’s always hard to say no to new opportunities.

If you could speak to your younger self, what advice would you give, and how does it relate to the dreams you had as a child about creating, inventing, or doing something special?

Probably to have the courage to jump into things faster than I did, technology now is way beyond what I expected and what 15 years ago seemed like something crazy. Probably, with the right knowledge, mindset and courage, the possibilities in the tech world are now limitless.

Which famous person would you like to have dinner with and why?

I would say Daniel EK, founder of Spotify. As a music passionate singer and songwriter, Spotify made a huge revolution in the music industry, and how it happened with the technology is something fascinating for me. It made, in some cases, a life-changing experience for some artists and non-professionals who wanted to share their music, something for my younger self almost impossible and very hard to achieve due to a period of time with no social media, complex and long days of the recording studio and impossible ways to deliver music outside of Majors Discography. It would be interesting to talk and see how he sees music in the next 10 years.

Where would you like to travel next?

Japan is probably a fascinating culture, and technology is a big part of daily life. Knowing different ways of approaching life is something that has helped me a lot over the years, like living in the United States (while I was a teeneager) and going to public high school there. It opens your mind to different cultures and ways of solving problems in your life. So yes, Japan is probably the next trip to make.

What tips do you have for people wanting to start in the tech world?

Courage, mindset, and having fun.

Now, everything is available; you just need to try, be brave, have fun, and learn step by step the tools and the possibilities that come with them. Probably the big challenge now is knowing what you want because everything seems so saturated but, on the other hand, is not. So have fun and try; the worst thing that can happen is learning from your mistakes.
