Copilot for Security: Microsoft announces the general availability

Copilot for Security: A growing area of interest in every company, cybersecurity is also at the top of the business functions that are most exploiting the power of AI by integrating it into their processes: at the European level, in fact, 47% of the projects involving artificial intelligence concern cybersecurity. This trend is also confirmed, as cyber security and threat detection are among the top three business use cases where AI is exploited to optimize business efficiency.

According to research conducted among corporate cybersecurity managers, among the top activities rated as effective in increasing a company’s cyber resilience, 73 per cent of respondents identified the ability to detect threats in a timely manner through detection – a fact that highlights the importance of implementing a fast and responsive response system from the first signs of attack.

GenAI for the cybersec

Microsoft Copilot for Security combines OpenAI’s most advanced GPT-4 model with AI orchestration developed by Microsoft and leverages the unique expertise of Microsoft Security’s global threat intelligence and security products. It is based on threat intelligence and large-scale data, including more than 78 trillion security alerts processed by Microsoft every day, coupled with state-of-the-art language models that provide customized insights.

By harnessing the power of generative AI and simplifying otherwise complex toolsets, Copilot for Security can help businesses manage threats and potential attacks, helping security analysts and IT professionals expand their skill sets, collaborate more effectively, and gain greater visibility into threats, enabling faster response. Copilot for Security also acts as a powerful ally for companies grappling with a complex security landscape and the recognized difficulty of finding experienced cybersecurity professionals on the market.

“Globally, the cost of cybercrime is expected to exceed $8 trillion, making it the third largest and fastest growing economy in the world. Against this backdrop of increasing fragility, Microsoft’s efforts are moving in the direction of providing businesses and partners with integrated solutions that can enhance their security posture, more effectively address threats, and increase business resilience in the wake of attacks. Copilot for Security represents Microsoft’s combination of three critical advantages, combining large-scale threat data and intelligence, comprehensive end-to-end protection, and responsible artificial intelligence. We are excited to bring this solution to the market to support enterprise customers and partners on their journey to greater Security,” said Tamara Zancan, Director of Cybersecurity, Compliance, and Identity at Microsoft.

Cybersecurity as seen by companies and early feedback on Copilot for Security

Among the companies around the world that have begun experimenting with Microsoft’s Copilot for Security offers, a recent study by the company highlighted feedback from security professionals who saw numerous benefits in terms of time savings and accuracy of analysis, speeding up their activities by 22 per cent and achieving a 7 per cent higher level of accuracy on all tasks performed. Overall, 93 per cent of professionals who tested Copilot for Security confirmed that it helped them improve the quality of their work, and 97 per cent of the sample said they would use Copilot in the future to perform the same task.

In addition, according to further research conducted by Microsoft, among the main benefits enabled by Copilot for Security is the ability for analysts to save more than 60 per cent of their time on more routine tasks, allowing them to take on more value-added tasks. Furthermore, thanks to Copilot’s ability to exploit natural language to answer queries, even junior analysts could develop new critical long-term skills, creating a virtuous circle of training and professional and business growth. Ahead of any reasoning concerning the implementation of AI tools, the focal point for companies that are considering integrating AI tools into their processes is to adopt a responsible approach to AI: 1 in 31 companies has initiated a genuine in-house governance on responsible AI issues, and 70% consider it important that those providing AI solutions have a clear strategy for a responsible approach to AI.
