Celebrating love the smart way: 8 apps that will win your heart this Valentine’s Day

You either love it or hate it. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and nothing beats a bit of tech to help the Day run as smoothly as possible.

According to figures from Finder.com, in 2021, roughly 161.8 million people bought gifts for their Valentine and celebrated the occasion. When it comes to singles and using technology, a study from Cloudwards.net estimates that there are over 8,000 competitive online dating sites and platforms worldwide, showing there’s a huge market for love and everything tech related.

With Valentine’s Day swiftly approaching, we took a look at some of the smartest apps out there to ensure everybody feels the love (in some shape or form!)

Happy Love (iOS only)

Designed for those in relationships, this app aims to help keep your other half organised by connecting your chores and interests through the cloud. It offers a shared calendar, smart shopping, and combined to-do lists. Although fun to use, the less attractive side to this app is the GPS-powered location finder and mood setter, which means you can track your loved one and let them know how you feel before you get home (dangerous tech!). Avoid rows over missing important dates and forgetting to buy necessities with this app which is free to use and available on iOS only.

Valentine’s Day ecards (iOS and website)

Produced by 123 greetings, this is a slightly more advanced app with over 1,000 ecards for him and her, friends and family. It also offers a range of greetings for Valentine’s week alone, including Rose Day cards, Propose Day cards, Hug day cards and more. The video, animated postcard, and GIF-type e-cards on offer are also a nice little add-on. Although it features oodles of ads, it is worth the download due to its wide selection of cards, all free to download.

Kitchen Stories (iOS and Android)

Look no further than Kitchen stories for those looking to cook up a storm in a truly romantic fashion. Winner of Google play’s Design award, it features hundreds of super easy recipes to keep your other half fully satisfied on the Day. It offers everything from sweet and savoury dishes to healthy recipes which you can share with the user community. It also features instructional videos and articles on cooking and baking, so there’s no excuse for anyone to burn the food!

Valentine’s Day wallpapers (free on iOS)

What better way to celebrate love than having it on your home screen? This nifty little app provides users with endless romantic backgrounds that can be popped onto their phones. You can also share wallpapers with your friends to upload when their screen locks. It’s free to download and, unfortunately, is currently only available on iOS.

Valentine’s Day cards and wishes (free on iOS)

Whether you’re looking to send Valentine’s greeting to a lover or friend, there’s no need to buy cards anymore with Valentine’s cards and wishes. The rose-mantic app features a wide range of greetings, messages, cards and GIFs specifically for the big Day itself. Easy to use, its simplistic interface enables you to share, copy and download greetings within seconds. What’s more, you can email or text your creations to friends after.

JustWatch (iOS and Android)

Forget fighting over what movies or TV series to watch – this app will help you and your Valentine make the most informed choice for couch time. A search engine app for digital media, it acts as an online guide that collates TV shows, movies and all other programs that can be streamed anytime, anywhere. It provides information on all the main streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and BBC Player. It gives users updates on what’s new and hot, price drops on rentals, and you can even put together a WatchList for you and your loved one.

GoPro Quik (iOS and Android)

If you’re looking to create something a little more personal and different such as a montage, look no further than GoPro Quik. What’s interesting about it (available on iOS and Android) is that you don’t need to own a GoPro camera or subscribe to anything to use it. You can add unlimited photos and video clips from your smartphone in seconds and clip, add filter effects and text to video, so you can add those all-important lovey-dovey messages to anything you share. It’s also been voted one of the top-grossing video players and apps of all time.

Couple Game (iOS and Android)

One of the most popular relationship apps on the market, Couple Game bills itself as ‘the perfect way to find out how well you know your partner.’ Rather addictive, it features a host of questions on your favourite holidays, films, movies, hobbies and more. It’ll help you become smarter about your other halves’ needs and may make you feel closer than ever. This clever app also saves answers and memories, so there’s no chance of forgetting your partner’s preferences – it may inspire gift ideas. Easy to navigate, with a colourful interface, it’s free to download on iOS and Android, providing you with hours of entertainment this Valentine’s!
