Huawei Watch D2: the future of health on your wrist

Huawei continues to push the boundaries of innovation in the smartwatch world with the Watch D2, the second generation of the device that makes it possible to monitor blood pressure at home in a professional manner. For all intents and purposes, the Huawei Watch D2 is a medical device. This is thanks to the presence, under the strap, of an air chamber, which, as it inflates, allows the blood pressure to be monitored with the same parameters as a home arm meter.

The Huawei Watch D2 has a sleek and elegant design, featuring a lightweight metal body (only 40 grams) and a thickness of only 13.3 millimetres, which is in line with the most modern smartwatches. Compared to the previous model, the dimensions have been optimized, particularly those of the display, which now offers a larger viewing area. The strap, a key element in the accuracy of pressure measurements, has been redesigned to ensure greater comfort, even for those with small wrists.

Despite the presence of the inflation system, it is less bulky than before and fits easily on any wrist. Huawei Watch D2 is a bundle of technology in the service of well-being. In addition to the blood pressure sensor, it also integrates sensors for heart rate, blood oxygenation, skin temperature and ECG. Added to these are an updated processor, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS for tracking physical activity and, of course, compatibility with Android and iOS smartphones.

Measuring blood pressure

The real differential, as mentioned above, is the continuous measurement of blood pressure in the form of blood pressure. Thanks to the integrated compressor, which is even quieter and more powerful, it is possible to program automatic measurements every 30 minutes for 24 hours, obtaining a detailed report on the progress throughout the day, even during sleep. This unique feature provides accurate and constant monitoring of cardiovascular health, which is particularly useful for those suffering from hypertension or other heart conditions.

Once completed, the Health app produces a professional report, which can be viewed by a doctor in the same way as a standard 24-hour blood pressure check. As with Huawei’s other smartphones, the Huawei Health app has become central, offering an intuitive and comprehensive interface for viewing and analyzing the collected health data. In addition to blood pressure, the app allows monitoring of physical activity, sleep, stress and other vital parameters.

The Watch D2 is not just a health device but a complete and functional smartwatch. The 1.82-inch screen offers good visibility and smooth navigation between the different functions. Wrist notifications have been improved and allow you to reply with emoji or predefined messages. Dozens of dials are available, as well as widgets for controlling music, monitoring the weather and using Petal Maps for navigation. The 524 mAh battery provides excellent battery life, which is the flagship of Huawei’s wearables. Here, we get up to two weeks of standard use and about four or five days of intensive use of the well-being monitoring functions.

Do I buy it or not?

The Huawei Watch D2 represents an important step forward in the world of smartwatches. A nice revolution for those who need to constantly monitor their heart condition. We then have, as mentioned, ECG measurement (manual, of course, and holding the opposite hand in contact with the watch crown) and physical activity tracking. In addition, we have not ‘stressed’ it too much on these other aspects, but the experience of all the latest Huawei smartwatches teaches us that the company is particularly ‘strong’ in this aspect. We have sleep tracking (very accurate with even naps) and stress tracking. The integrated GPS allows you to track your movement during outdoor physical activity.

The price is €399, which is high but balanced in relation to what it offers. Considering that it is unique for monitoring blood pressure, it is recommended for those who want to accurately track this parameter. However, one must consider the wide range of smart functionalities of a watch that does not exclude itself from the public, such as being able to manage phone calls, various notifications, music controls, weather, and much more. A ‘holistic’ view of one’s life, with the aim of taking better care of oneself.
