Ho Ho Ho! ChatGPT lets you speak with Santa

ChatGPT Santa: Jolly news (unless you’ve been naughty this year): You can now chat with Santa Claus through ChatGPT’s voice mode! OpenAI has made Santa available for free in the list of voices in its settings. The AI company describes the North Pole gift-giver’s voice as “merry and bright.” This feature will be available until early January, according to the company.

Another way to access this festive functionality is by tapping the snowflake icon on the ChatGPT home screen or clicking the voice mode icon in the app’s top-right corner.

Santa is available in both advanced and standard voice modes. However, Santa does not support custom instructions or memory, unlike other voice chat options. This means the chatbot won’t personalize responses (such as “address me formally” or “avoid a certain topic”) and will not remember details about users between sessions (such as their names or preferences).

Additionally, Santa is restricted to users over the age of 13. However, younger internet users can opt instead to track Santa without any problems through Google’s “Santa Tracker.”

He sees you when you are sleeping. He knows when you are awake…

This month, OpenAI also rolled out a live video feature for paid users in some countries. This feature allows ChatGPT to “see” your surroundings and incorporate them into the conversation. So, while chatting with Santa, he can also see what you’re doing. Users can access the advanced voice mode with vision by tapping the voice icon next to the ChatGPT chat bar.

OpenAI isn’t the first company to feature big-name voices in its chatbot options. Earlier this year, Meta Platforms secured deals with actors Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, and John Cena to voice its Meta AI chatbot.

Chatting tips for a more magical experience with Santa

To enhance your experience while chatting with Santa, here are a few tips:

Santa always begins his replies with his iconic “Ho Ho Ho,” which might get a bit repetitive over time. If that’s the case, you can (kindly) ask him to “tone it down,” as Reddit user Suno-for_your_sprog suggests.

Santa often starts conversations in English but is capable of speaking many other languages.

You can ask Santa for gift ideas, request a Christmas story, or even try to get him to reveal who’s on his “naughty list.”

Stick to holiday related questions for better responses.

Unfortunately, Santa won’t join you for a Christmas carol if you ask him to sing.

Merry Christmas!
