Father’s Day: Shopping tips

After mothers, it is time for fathers to celebrate the day that enhances their role and influence in society. Father’s Day originated in the United States as the brainchild of a woman, Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to find an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. Not surprisingly, the girl was raised by her father along with her 13 brothers and sisters. Hence the desire to recognize the importance of fatherhood was first celebrated in mid-June 1910 and later became a national holiday in the United States in 1972. In honour of its first, the holiday falls on the third Sunday in June, and beyond the specific date, it is a good opportunity to smile at your father, even with a hi-tech gift, perhaps fish for one of our suggestions below.

Gamer Dad – PlayStation 5 – Father’s Day

Sony’s latest console needs no introduction because it is the most desired. In recent weeks it is often the subject of very attractive offers, such as the one on eBay in which the standard version was offered at €479. With graphics and performance that mark a leap forward from the previous generation, even in the PS5 Digital Version, the console includes the DualSense controller that, with tactile feedback, makes the gaming experience more realistic. Another interesting new feature is the compatibility with most PS4 titles.

Sports dad – Garmin Forerunner 265

If your father runs fast, this is the right gift. Because it brings all your workout data in a touchscreen watch with a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, it is compatible with iPhone and Android. It has a 13-day battery life (which reduces to 24 hours with GPS active), heartbeat measurement and blood oxygen saturation. An ideal travel companion for outdoor exercisers, the smartwatch is available in different colours and is one of Garmin’s best value-for-money models. It costs €499.99.

Audiophile dad – JBL Tour ONE M2

The latest arrival among JBL’s over-ear headphones, they are comfortable even during prolonged listening sessions and offer True Adaptive noise-cancelling technology, which I tested with excellent results both on the train and in the air when you want to eliminate surrounding noise. The four built-in microphones make it possible to have phone conversations without fretting. At the same time, the audio is excellent, and the sound reproduction is impressive in both high frequencies and bass. They cost €329 and are worth it all.

Cinephile dad – TCL C84 Series

An alternative to the better-known Samsung, Sony and LG, this TCL TV is one of the first Google QLED TVs with Mini Led technology that ensures excellent viewing and a range of features tailored to the type of content being watched (cinema, sports, concert). In addition to its bezel-less design and centre stand to fit any surface, it can also be operated by voice and integrates a dual Onkyo subwoofer for room-enveloping sound. The TV is available in 55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inch models, with prices starting at €999.

Uncompromising dad – Samsung S23 Ultra – Father’s Day

The best Android smartphone on the market should suffice as a calling card. Otherwise, in addition to the build and photographic quality, there is the Samsung ecosystem, which is one factor that differentiates it from other brands with the same operating system. The most popular model in the series (60% of sales of the S23 range is the Ultra), with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, preferred to the previous Exynos, S23 has further improved performance, confirming once again the first alternative to the iPhone. The 256GB version online can be found on promotion for just under €900.

Creative dad – iPad Pro

Father’s Day: Tablets are in crisis, and even the iPad is not selling as well as it used to. Yet, the Pro model remains an outstanding companion for creative minds taking advantage of the 12.9-inch Liquid Retina display, Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard. The complete package costs a lot (about €2,300), but if you want to give a work tool that can simplify things and speed things up, iPad Pro is undoubtedly the solution that will make your dad happy.

Experimental dad – Huawei Watch Buds

Two devices for the cost of one. This is Huawei’s way of showing that it still knows how to innovate, despite the U.S. ban curbing sales and development of its smartphones. The Chinese company does so with a smartwatch with elegant shapes and a circular case reminiscent of traditional watches, inside of which are hidden two earbuds of 4 grams each. A stylistically striking solution that will make you look like James Bond but also be effective in remedying the loss of earbuds. Price: €499.

Smart Dad – Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Lite

Why waste time in city traffic when you can move as and when you want on an electric scooter? This one from Xiaomi touches 20 km/h, has a 300W motor, 20 km range, drum brake on the rear wheel and E-ABS system on the front to reduce the braking distance and ensure greater safety. 8.5-inch tires and the Xiaomi Home app to monitor speed and charge in real-time are two other relevant elements of a useful means of avoiding wasted time. Ideal for dads who travel on a tight schedule. Price: €399.
