Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 will be announced at the Unpacked event on 26 July. Nothing official yet, but the rumours about an earlier date than in previous years are getting stronger and stronger. New confirmations are arriving from South Korea, and even the reliable Roland Quandt of WinFuture reports Samsung’s intention to tighten the schedule by launching the new products a few days earlier.
The motivation for this is related to the desire to boost revenues in the third quarter: the latest fiscal results have been somewhat disappointing. Hence, the company intends to provide its customers the many days to buy the new products. The Galaxy Tab S9 tablets are also expected to debut with the two foldable. According to reports, three variants of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 are planned, from the base model without a suffix to the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus to the large and expensive Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.
The 26 July Unpacked will thus be the second Unpacked of the year after the one held on 1 February dedicated to the Galaxy S23/Plus/Ultra. According to sources, Samsung will officially announce the date of the event a month earlier, thus towards the end of June. The Korean newspaper that first shared the 26 July presentation date on the web also speculates on the day the devices will be available on the market: 11 August.
No revolution compared to previous ones
Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 should be similar in principle to the previous versions but with some design changes to make them more durable and comfortable to use. According to earlier reports, Samsung wants to use a newly developed hinge for the new smartphones with a foldable display, which means the devices can be folded completely flat, and the ‘folding’ of the display should be less visible. Both should then be based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, an improved opening and closing mechanism, and superior cameras.
The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to feature a brighter AMOLED display than the previous model. The outer panel of this smartphone will measure 6.2 inches and have a refresh rate of 120hz. To power the device, it is assumed that it will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy and will likely be available with different LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 ROM options. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a triple rear camera configuration with a possible camera sensor upgrade. The main camera will be capable of capturing 8K video at 30fps.
According to analysts, the early launch of the Galaxy Fold5 and Galaxy Flip5 will create sufficient time distance to Apple’s iPhone 15 range, scheduled for September. Furthermore, both smartphones will have a battery that will support 25W charging. Not an excessive charging speed, therefore, probably adopted to avoid excessive overheating on such special devices as foldable. This could help Samsung sell more high-end smartphones. In fact, to date, the bulk of the Korean company’s hardware sales come from mid to low-end models, which help put the giant in the first place as a smartphone brand.
