Gaming Technology

Introduction

When I was a kid the first contact with technology was with video games in some big boxes with screens. After that, the entertainment was transferred to the homes via electronic consoles. Atari, Sega, Nintendo, gradually closed the e-entertainment market for children. Initially in the first online games we had two-dimensional graphics based on technology with text. Gradually with the evolution of technology combining both hardware and software we have a great improvement of graphics until today we are talking about 3D graphics, with the possibility of using even virtual reality. So, the games are more realistic now and with more details for each category.

Nowadays the evolution and the course of technology has formed a completely different level of games with many categories and genres but also with an approach that is not only aimed at entertainment. Games are now used for educational purposes in various fields, while the evolution of technology has created educational simulators, eliminating any risk of fatal accident or injury. For example, a well-known simulator that can be acquired by any user, is the flight simulator.

Gaming Today

The evolution of technology has led us to play games with incredible fantasy worlds, with almost realistic image, impressive effects and excellent sound. In modern games, the possibility of real time has been added, as it is called in the field of information technology, which means that through the internet many people can play the same game together in different roles at the same time, either as opponents or as partners.

Virtual Reality & Gaming

Virtual Reality is now in the digital game industry. From education to healthcare, technology and its applications are evolving very rapidly, while at the same time opening new horizons in the video game industry. Games, social behaviour and new technologies are interconnected. This synergy is capable of transforming our behaviour, experiencing situations, and broadening our horizons, but it also allows game designers to develop new video game experiences.

Artificial Intelligence & Gaming

In the last decade, electronic games have become a very popular field of application of modern methods of the wider branch of artificial intelligence. As the demands for intelligent behaviour in games are constantly increasing, the application of these techniques goes beyond the experimental framework and acquires practical purposes. Inventive methods, neural networks, search trees and evolutionary algorithms are the most important techniques used to date in the development of intelligence capable of being competitive with humans.

One of the most popular games created by artificial intelligence is chess. It is very interesting to see the best world chess player competing in computer chess. Sometimes the computer is also the winner. Therefore, we understand that the use of artificial intelligence is very high and we must not forget that we use computers and other devices to calculate that the human brain does not have the ability to do so.

Mobile Devices & Gaming

Mobile devices are constantly receiving upgrades with better graphics and faster processing power, it is normal that we will soon see mobile versions of large franchises. Games previously released only for desktops or game consoles are already on smartphones. Over time, more and more franchises will definitely offer their games on mobile devices.

As for the future of mobile games, we can expect better devices and better games with a combination of the above technologies, offering unique and exciting experiences.

The future of video games

Games are the future of AI. Games provide the best benchmarks for AI because of the way they are designed to challenge many different human cognitive abilities, as well as for their technical convenience and the availability of human data. Games and AI for games help us understand intelligence. By studying how humans play and design games, we can understand how they think, and we can attempt to replicate this thinking by creating game-playing and game-designing AI agents. Game design is a cognitive science; it studies thinking—human thinking and machine thinking (Julian Togelius).

The future of electronic games will be a combination of technologies with clouds with AI and with virtual or augmented reality and clouds. According to a leaked report from investment bank Goldman Sachs, the VR and augmented reality industry will be worth an estimated $80 billion by 2025. Whatever happens, the virtual world is finally about to become a reality.
