In a strategic move to change its leadership team, Netflix has recently made new position appointments, promoting Eunice Kim to Chief Product Officer and Elizabeth Stone to Chief Technology Officer. Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, expressed his confidence in the newly appointed executives, citing their strong track records both at Netflix and within the broader technology industry.
Elizabeth Stone’s Rise to Chief Technology Officer
Elizabeth Stone, who became Chief Technology Officer, has been leading Netflix’s Data and Insights team since 2020. Leveraging research, analytics, and data science, Stone played a crucial role in enhancing the user experience for Netflix subscribers. Her diverse professional background includes leadership roles at Nuna and Lyft and experience in finance, working as a trader at Merrill Lynch and an economist at Analysis Group. Stone holds a B.S. from MIT and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Stone will manage its data and engineering teams as the newly appointed Chief Technology Officer. Reflecting on her role, Stone acknowledged technology’s critical role in Netflix’s success over the last 25 years. She expressed gratitude for the privilege of working with exceptional teams and shared her inspiration for future innovations benefiting both members and the business.
Beyond the C-suite changes, Netflix has announced additional adjustments to its executive lineup, particularly in advertising and technology divisions. Jeremi Gorman, who led Netflix’s ad sales, is departing, and Amy Reinhard, previously the VP of Studio Operations, will step into the role of President of Advertising.
Gorman, departing after a year of leading the ads business, expressed her passion for scaling businesses from the early stages and building anew. Meanwhile, Reinhard’s seven-year tenure at Netflix positions her as a valuable leader with a deep understanding of the entertainment business.
Netflix’s Leadership Dynamics
Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters highlighted the strategic importance of these changes, particularly with Elizabeth Stone and Eunice Kim leading crucial aspects of the service. The reshuffle comes nine months after Peters assumed the co-CEO position alongside Ted Sarandos, delineating their roles in overseeing content and marketing and technology and product, respectively. As Netflix continues to evolve, these leadership adjustments are poised to shape the streaming giant’s future trajectory in the competitive entertainment landscape.
“Elizabeth and Eunice have strong track records at Netflix and more broadly within the technology industry,” said Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, speaking to Variety. “Together they will be leading a hugely important part of our service so I’m excited to see all the ways in which they can improve the Netflix experience — making it even easier for people to find the right movie, series, or game at the right moment.”
“Technology has been critical to Netflix’s success over the last 25 years, enabling us to deliver an ever improving member experience. It’s a huge privilege to work with such amazing teams and I am inspired by the opportunities to innovate into the future for the benefit of our members and our business,” added Stone.
