Democritus Racing Team (DRT) was founded in 2017 in Xanthi. The team represents the Democritus University of Thrace in the Formula Student and FSAE (Formula Society of Automotive Engineers) engineering training events, competing against students worldwide.
The ambitious students have developed their second electric Formula car and participate in international competitions, even receiving enthusiastic comments and distinctions.
Myself and Andriani Loizidou, Editor in Chief of 4i Magazine, spent a day with them at the Democritus University of Thrace, observing up close how they construct their electric Formula car. We had conversations with team members who explained the purpose of the Democritus Racing Team, the challenges they had to face, and their plans for the future.
We also had the opportunity to see the vehicle they have built up close, visited their workshop, and were guided through their offices, where they gather and make decisions about their next steps.
The team’s objective is to broaden the horizons of Democritus University of Thrace students by participating in modern international university events through this project. Their goal is to advocate for important principles like fair play, teamwork, and the cultivation of ethical standards among aspiring engineers.
