New house: Today, there’s an app for almost anything, including making the leap from one property to another. Although one of the most stressful experiences in our lives, moving house has become slightly easier as of the past few years with an increase in apps that aim to make it a seamless process.

A recent study showed that, in the UK alone, 309,000 households wanted to move to another property as of January 2023. What’s more, a survey from online real estate agent Yopa found that four in ten people claim moving house is the most nerve-wracking event they have ever experienced. With peak season for moving houses from mid-May to mid-September, we take a look at some of the latest innovations to help make that shift from house to home a seamless experience.

Move Advisor

An app that helps you organise everything from A to Z, Move Advisor is renowned for assisting people to navigate the moving house maze. Move Advisor provides full home moving inventory, a week-by-week moving timeline, and weekly moving cost calculation and provides details of the best-rated moving companies in the vicinity. One of its more impressive features, however, is its ability to enable users to map their new properties, meaning you can design how the rooms in your new home will look and see what furniture will fit and where. TaskRabbit

For people in need of a helping hand at any stage of the moving process, TaskRabbit is a handy app to download. A website and app (free to download d on Android) enable you to that next with contractors within your area to complete tasks of all shapes and sizes. Read hourly rates, reviews, and book providers to give you a hand in minutes. Some useful categories to those moving house include furniture assembly, cleaning, storage and packing services. You can even hire someone to help you assemble IKEA furniture! A must-have for a stress-free new home experience, it claims to have assisted with over 1.5 million moving tasks to date.

Decluttr

For those in need of a clearout, look no further than Decluttr. Although a website is as opposed to an app, it allows you to trade in, buy, and sell unwanted phones, tech, CDS, DVDs, books, and cash games. Whether you want to shop or sell, it enables users to monetise moves in a sustainable fashion. For selling, simply type in the name of the product you are looking to sell, complete a description, and receive an instant quote for how much you can make from it. You then simply complete your order, send your device using free send options and receive payment through direct deposit or PayPal. The website has been credited for helping people get rid of tech clutter whilst putting it to good use.

YNAB (You Need a Budget) app

With moving comes the need to purchase a plethora of bits and pieces for your new home. Another impressive app for moving house is Packing Pro. Although a paid-for platform, it has a plethora of features that will ensure you only pack what you need whilst also not forgetting the important stuff. A useful tool for travelling also simply downloads and creates customizable lists while prioritizing items. For those stuck for inspiration, it also features downloadable packing list templates, and you can even set alarms for when you need to add time-sensitive objects to your suitcase. If it’s a bigger move that involves the whole family, you can share your to-do lists with them. Available on iOS and Android, it’s a paid-for app that guarantees to fully prepare you for the biggest move of your life.
