Google will reportedly release Pixel Watch 2 this fall

Google Pixel Watch 2 is not far away

Just like Samsung and Apple’s wearable devices, Google is also planning to update the Pixel Watch annually. According to information that has emerged on the web in recent hours, the Mountain View company has decided to launch the Google Pixel Watch 2 as early as 2023 alongside the next-generation Pixel smartphones. According to exclusive information gathered by 9to5google, Google Pixel Watch 2 is currently scheduled to be launched at the same time as the new Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones. ‘Pixel Watch 2’ may not be the product’s final name, but the Big G company intends to follow the numerical nomenclature chosen for the Pixel series.

Google historically announced and brought its flagship phones to market in October; the arrival of the Mountain View company’s new wearable could therefore occur in the last months of 2023. For instance, according to rumours, the first Google Pixel Watch was launched on 6 October at the Made By Google event, an occasion that could be repeated this year. On the other hand, we must recognise that the first Pixel Watch was in development for a few years before officially coming to market in 2022. It seems that Google is ready to launch Pixel Watch two alongside the Pixel 8. This means that Google’s new smartwatch could debut this year, during next autumn when Google’s new top-of-the-line devices will be unveiled.

The hardware to aspect

The first teasers for the new wearable could arrive at the Google I/O 2023 on 10 May, although the event already seems packed. On this occasion, the US company will present the new Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, and the latest version of the operating system: Android 14. After a rather limp start, the Google Pixel Watch has improved as it has aged. It is still not the best smartwatch, but it offers honest performance and allows most users to cover a day’s use. From what has been said, the room for improvement for the new model is wide. The first upgrade will have to be in the chipset: the first Pixel Watch is built around the 10nm Samsung Exynos 9110 (Cortex-A53) – the same as the 2018 Galaxy Watch -as opposed to the 5nm Exynos W920 (Corex-A55) of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.

In recent months, we have told you about the 4nm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1, which will be at the heart of the next generation of Wear OS smartwatches. Such a chipset would represent a huge step forward for the new Google Pixel Watch, ensuring clear improvements in terms of efficiency and – consequently – autonomy: it is not clear whether Google will aim to exceed a single day, but the new chip will above all have the task of ensuring a satisfactory autonomy even in the face of more intense use. Regarding software, the future of Wear OS could be under the banner of Material You through the implementation of Dynamic Color: the basis of the new version should be Android 13.
